Cave In/Mutoid Man frontman and Old Man Gloom member Stephen Brodsky, a Two Minutes To Late Night regular, plays bass. If anything, their rep has only grown in recent years. They were problematic as hell, but they had colossal monster jams. Type O Negative remain absolutely beloved in the underground, for good reason. In 2010, Peter Steele, the band’s glowering and towering frontman, died of an aneurysm. Last week, it was Ted Leo leading a version of the Replacements’ “ Kids Don’t Follow.” The week before it was E Street Band/ Conan O’Brien legend Max Weinberg joining members of Hatebreed and My Chemical Romance to play the Misfits “ Earth A.D.” And today, we get the Two Minutes To Late Night salute to Type O Negative.īrooklyn goth-metal overlords Type O Negative rose up out of the New York metal underground and became cult stars and, briefly, radio presences in the ’90s. Every week, musicians from the worlds of punk, metal, and hardcore get together to cover classic songs remotely from their houses and practice spaces. Two Minutes To Late Night, brainchild of the comedian Jordan Olds, was a metal-themed talk show parody that aired out of the Brooklyn venue Saint Vitus. The concept of ✾dge Of Existence« explores Hickey’s personal struggles with addiction, love, and suicide, and the death of his singer and frontman Peter Steele in 2010 and subsequent disbandment of Type O Negative. The title ✾dge Of Existence« refers to the albums central character’s existence at the fringes of society-due to his mental fragility and self destructive tendencies. The central skeletal figure on the front cover was modeled after the famous images of the ascension of Christ, with Hickey posing for the image and the artist Rodrigo Canteras sketching the image of the robed skeleton over his proportions. ![]() The idea was to capture the classic black light, sci-fi poster art popular in the 1970’s. The album cover art was conceived by Joe James and Kenny Hickey. Formed in 2017, the band consists of Kenny Hickey (ex-Type O Negative, ex-Danzig, ex-Seventh Void, ex-Repulsion) on guitar and vocals, Johnny Kelly (ex-Type O Negative, ex-A Pale Horse Named Death, ex-Black Label Society, ex-Seventh Void, Danzig, Kill Devil Hill) on drums, NYC hardcore veterans Joseph James (ex-Agnostic Front) on guitar and Hank Hell (ex-Seventh Void, Inhuman) on bass, and Aaron Joos (ex-Empyreon) on guitar and keyboards. These Type O negative veterans are still rocking the universe with the bands they formed: Silvertomb and Seventh Void. Silvertomb marks the return of Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly in their first new project since the death of frontman Peter Steele in 2010. For the video we tried to capture how a negative self image and a lust for power can be turned outward and onto society to become a destructive force.” It’s a basic purging of every trauma, insecurity and anxiety that led up to that point in my life. Type O Negative was founded in 1989 by keyboardist Josh Silver and bassist/vocalist Peter Steele after the breakup of Steeles previous band, Brooklyn hardcore. O negative donors are often called universal donors because anyone can receive the red blood cells from their donations.
